Nor'easters forward Fredlin 'Fredinho' Mompremier wins PDL Goal of the Week
Haitian sensation's impressive goal against FA Euro New York earned him 48% of the votes
Ocean City Nor'easters forward Fredlin "Fredinho" Mompremier (Fairleigh Dickinson / Limbe, Haiti) was voted the winner of Week 9's Premier Development League Goal of the Week. Mompremier received 48% of the voting to win the award.
The Haitian sensation used his speed to run onto a long clearance by Max Hemmings (Georgia State / Wokingham, England) to create the second goal in last Saturday's 5-0 win over FA Euro New York. In all, Fredinho ran more than 60 yards, blew past the last defender, collected the ball and made an incredible touch to beat the onrushing goalkeeper. (WATCH THE GOAL BELOW)
It was his first goal of the PDL season (he scored two during the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup), which may be surprising to some considering Mompremier was the Nor'easters' top scorer last year and Offensive Player of the Year. The reason for his lack of goalscoring is due to his position change this season to outside defender. Head coach John Thompson has used Mompremier's speed to help shut down the opposing teams' wing players but also to get forward to add to the attack.
Mompremier's offensive contribution has been more in creating goals than scoring goals. The Fairleigh Dickinson product is leading the team in assists with five. Two of those assists came in that 5-0 win over FA Euro.
Fredinho is the second Nor'easters player to win an award from the league for an impressive goal. Ignacio Tellechea won a PDL Goal of the Month award for a goal against Evergreen FC last year.
