It's all about winning: Ocean City Nor'easters feature story from 2018
About the Nor'easters
"South Jersey's Premier Soccer Team"
The Ocean City Nor’easters is a professionally run amateur soccer club with the focus of developing, educating and promoting soccer, health and leadership. Located in Ocean City, New Jersey, “America’s Greatest Family Resort”, the Nor’easters provide quality entertainment to families throughout the Tri-State area and the thousands of visitors every summer.
The Nor’easters organization was established in 1996 and made Carey Stadium, in Ocean City, NJ, its permanent home in 2005. Competing in North America’s top amateur league, USL League Two (USL-2), the Nor’easters provide the highest level of soccer in Southern New Jersey. USL League Two is the fourth level of soccer in the United States, below the professional leagues; Major League Soccer (MLS), the United Soccer League Championship (USL) and USL League One. As part of USL-2, the Nor’easters’ players have the ability to compete during the summer months in a professional environment while maintaining their collegiate eligibility and pursuing their academic goals.
In a league boasting an impressive resume of preparing, showcasing and promoting its players to professional clubs across the globe; the Nor’easters have proven as a “shop window” for top collegiate & amateur players, with over 80 alumni having moved on to play professionally. In addition to the club's individual accomplishments, the team has established itself as one of the elite clubs in North American since joining USL League Two in 2003.
The Nor'easters have won two Eastern Conference championships, which have resulted in two PDL Final Four appearances, three division titles and have qualified for the playoffs six times in one of the most competitive divisions in the league.
The Nor'easters have also made a name for themselves on the national stage as a giant-killer in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, the United States' national championship modeled after England's FA Cup. The US Open Cup is a single-elimination March Madness-style tournament that puts amateur and professional teams in the same competition. Only two amateur teams in the country have more tournament wins and more professional team upsets than the Nor'easters (Flint City Bucks, Des Moines Menace).
The Nor’easters are not only a proving ground for players aspiring to play at the next level, but they have established a tradition of being heavily involved in the community, providing affordable family fun as well as numerous youth programs such as camps, clinics, school visits and more. The club's involvement in the community has twice been recognized with the prestigious “Piece of the Boardwalk” award by the Ocean City Mayor and City Council, in 2009 & 2013. The continued community involvement since 2005 has created strong ties with local organizations as well as an established relationship with the City of Ocean City, New Jersey and the Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce, an official club sponsor.
The Nor’easters play all their home fixtures, only steps off the beach, at Carey Stadium ("The Beach House") in Ocean City and benefit from the use of the facilities at the Tennessee Avenue Soccer Complex.
