Ocean City Nor'easters' 2020 USL League Two season has been cancelled

Due to health and safety concerns caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the United Soccer League has announced the 2020 USL League Two season has been cancelled.

After careful collaboration with full league membership and more recently, those clubs able to pursue a League Two season, the league made the decision to cancel the 2020 League Two season.

The 2020 season would have been the Nor'easters' 24th as a club, and 18th as a member of USL League Two. Now, that 24th season will have to wait until 2021.

"After 24 years as a club, its very upsetting to say that we will not be having a season this summer," said Nor'easters general manager Giancarlo Granese Jr.. "With all that is going on with the coronavirus, there are just too many situations that are out of our control. It's sad to say as we were looking forward to this summer as we had a very strong group of players coming in that we believe that we would have made a strong push for a league championship. With that being said, we will look forward to 2021 and hope everyone stays healthy and safe during these difficult times."

Without a league season, the Nor'easters will be exploring exhibition game opportunities during the summer, which depends, of course, on those same health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The momentum our clubs have built in League Two across the country in recent years has been tremendous, and today’s announcement – while disappointing – will do nothing to alter that,” said USL League Two Vice President Joel Nash. “We will continue to support soccer being played when and where possible in 2020 and use this time to get even stronger as a league and look forward to returning to competitive action better than ever before in 2021.”

While the USL League Two season has been canceled, the Nor'easters Summer Vacation Camp is still scheduled to take place in Ocean City this summer beginning June 29. Registration is now open (sign up here) and if the camp is unable to take place due to health concerns, refunds will be provided.
