It was a beautiful sunny summer evening in Ocean City, NJ and the Nor’easters but the Nor’easters were unable to finish their chances as the Jersey Express ran out 2-0 winners.
There was a slow start to this important home opener for the Nor’easters but it was the Ocean City team who made the best chances with Tweneboa going close early on.
The loss of Tyler Hilliard early to injury from a late Jersey Express challenge brought Jhamie Hyde into the contest after only 13 minutes. It was a cagey first half but the goal drought was ended by the Express midfielder Thomas McNamara who passed it into the corner to make it 1-0.
The second half began with the entrance of JP Correa and new signing Dwayne Reid, coming off a MVP performance against Long Island, to create the spark for the Nor’easters.
The game continued in its chess match style demeanor with neither team taking control. The Nor’easters raided the channels a few times but could not find the final pass or shot to make it count. The game finished as a competition as Jersey Express scored their second from Abdoulaye Coulibaly, who was found open in the penalty area as the Nor’easters attacked for the equalizer, and slotted it home past Billings.
A disappointing performance from the Champions that was a long way short of the high standards that have been set in previous games over the past 16 months.
The Nor’easters next home game is on Sunday June 30th against Central Jersey Spartans, 7pm kick off, Carey Stadium. The Nor’easters will also host the W-League, women’s professional soccer game, between Washington and New York, kick off at 4pm.
