Ocean City enters match tied for first place in Mid-Atlantic Division with two games in hand

Undefeated Nor'easters host Lehigh Valley tonight at Beach House

The Ocean City Nor'easters continue the club's 25th season on Wednesday night with a home game against Lehigh Valley United.

The game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Carey Stadium ("The Beach House") in Ocean City, N.J., America's Greatest Family Resort. General admission tickets are $10 each and can be purchased in advance on the Nor'easters website, and at the Carey Stadium gate with cash or with a smartphone. Soccer coaches of all levels and players from the South Jersey Elite Barons, Cohansey Premier and New Jersey Surf all get in free.

For fans unable to make it out to the Beach House, the Nor'easters are partnering with BFA Productions to provide a live video stream of Wednesday's game, and all home games for the 2022 season. Local broadcast veteran Mike Frankel will handle the play-by-play duties. A link to the online broadcast will be posted on the Nor'easters social media accounts two hours before kickoff.

The Nor'easters are undefeated (3-0-1) after four games and enter the match tied for first place in the Mid-Atlantic Division with West Chester United. However, Ocean City has played fewer games. Meanwhile, Lehigh Valley United are seeking their first win of the season (0-4-1), and are trying to win a game at the Beach House for the first time in club history.

Ocean City's unbeaten streak to start the season reached four (five if you include their win over Philadelphia Lone Star in last season's regular season finale) with a 2-0 road win over long-time rival Reading United AC last Saturday. MD Myers (Rutgers / Delran, NJ) scored a pair of goals, and Felix Schaefer (Santa Clara / Berlin, Germany) earned the Storm's first clean sheet of the season. Alessandro Arlotti (Harvard / San Remo, Italy), the Nor'easters' leading scorer (3 goals, 1 assists), assisted on Myers' first goal to extend his points streak to four games.

In the longest active rivalry of any pair of teams in the United Soccer Leagues, it extends the Nor'easters' unbeaten streak against their long-time rivals to four games.

Lehigh Valley United had a really challenging first two years in the PDL (now USL League Two). United won just a single game in 2015 and upped that total to three in 2016. They won four games in 2017, but the club took a step back in 2018 with just one win. In 2019, they took a step forward and won four games (and earned three draws) in one of the toughest divisions in the league.

The club joined USL League Two after five years in the National Premier Soccer League where they won the league championship in 2012 and made the playoffs in four of the five seasons, including two appearances in the national final four. In 2019, the two teams split the season series as Ocean City lost to Lehigh Valley for just the second time in club history, falling 2-0 on the road. The Storm bounced back with a 4-3 home win on June 28. In 2021, the Nor'easters blanked LVU in both meetings, outscoring them by a combined score of 10-0 to improve their all-time record against United 11-2-0.
