Ocean City FC indoor winter training wraps up

Over 70 kids took part in the eight week program

2011 Ocean City FC Indoor Winter Training at the Euro Sports Center.

With Spring just around the corner, it signals the end of another indoor winter training season with Ocean City FC. Once again, it was a great success with over 70 kids taking part in the eight-week program at the Euro Sports Center in Egg Harbor City, NJ.

Kids of all ages attended the camp where they worked on a variety of skills with the Ocean City FC coaching staff, led by director of coaching Leon Brown.

"It was a pleasure being able to work with the kids indoor for two months," said Brown. "The enthusiasm shown by the kids week-in and week-out was a great testament for their love of the game and willingness to learn which made it easier for our talented coaching staff to help them improve their game. The talent exhibited by the kids during these sessions were a glimpse into the bright future of the sport of soccer in South Jersey."

Brown was assisted by PDL head coach/general manager Neil Holloway, PDL assistant coach Dan Ortiz, and goalkeeping coach Paul Erbacher. In addition to goalkeeping skills with Coach Erbacher, the kids focused on the technical aspect of the game, working on passing and shooting, as well as speed and agility. The players were split up into four groups: 6-8 year-olds, 9-13-year-olds, High School players, and goalkeepers.

"Once again our winter training program was a success," said Holloway. "It is just one of the services we offer to the local soccer community. Throughout the spring and fall season we provide training services to a number a clubs in southern New Jersey such as Mainland United, Atlantic United, Upper Township, Hamilton Township, Glassboro Soccer Club, and Deptford Soccer Club. We also have a fantastic summer program with Super Y-League and tournament teams, as well our summer soccer camps."
