Nor'easters land player on Team of the Week for third straight week

Ocean City's three-game unbeaten streak has produced impressive individual performances

The United Soccer Leagues announced the Team of the Week for the Premier Development League for week ending, and for the third straight week, a member of the Ocean City Nor’easters was on the list.

For the week ending July 11, Ocean City FC John Fletcher (Eckherd College / Uxbridge, England) was an honorable mention selection among the 67 teams in the PDL. The captain played solid defense and joined the attack to score the lone goal for the Nor’easters in their 1-1 draw with Reading United last Saturday. The goal tied him for the team lead with four goals, which is a single-season club record for a defender. It was also his sixth career PDL goal, which ties him for the all-time club record for defenders. Fletcher is also the only player on the team that has started every game (as of July 15). He also has played in all but 11 minutes this year for the Nor’easters, leading the team in minutes played with 1,249.

In the previous week ending July 4, Kyle Miller (Holy Cross / Woodbury, NJ) made the honorable mention list for his two goals in Ocean City’s come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Rangers. The July 3 match was the first of five straight home games to end the season, and was Miller’s first two goals of the year in only his fourth game of the year.

For the week ending June 27, it was defender Kevin Strunk’s (Lehigh / Downingtown, PA) game-tying goal at Reading United on June 25 that earned him the honorable mention honor. Up until the July 14 match against Ironbound Express, Strunk and Fletcher were the only two players on the team who had started every game for Ocean City FC in 2010, but Struck came off the bench for the first time in that match.
