Nor'easters coach Alan McCann adds role with USL Championship side

On Monday, the Colorado Springs Switchbacks of the USL Championship announced that current Ocean City Nor'easters' head coach Alan McCann has joined the club's technical staff. McCann has been named the club's Performance and Technical Analyst.

McCann, who was hired as Ocean City's 10th head coach in club history last December, will remain in both roles for the upcoming season.

"It's exciting to be able to give our players another avenue of direct exposure to the professional level," said McCann, who was the two-time defending USL League Two Coach of the Year before being hired by the Nor'easters. "Along with bringing in players and staff that have experience of success at the USL League Two level, it allows us to change the culture of the team and the organization toward a more professional environment. This, in turn, allows us to help more players progress onto the professional level, which is the ultimate goal for each of them."

In McCann's new role with the Switchbacks, he will be reunited with the club's head coach Brendan Burke, who he played for as a member of Reading United AC during the 2012 season.

"Alan has been an integral part of our development pathway as a staff over the last number of years and has a keen eye for recruiting, recognizing patterns in opposition play, and training high performing teams in our preferred style and shapes," Burke said in a statement. "I have no doubt that his inclusion in our weekly discussions on the technical side will add value to our first team environment this year while he pursues another run to the USL League Two championship game with Ocean City this summer."

While being a USL League Two head coach and a technical director with a USL Championship side will be a lot of work, McCann, with his tireless work ethic, plans to take it in stride as he continues to move up the coaching ladder.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for Alan and his coaching career to have the opportunity to join the Colorado Springs Switchbacks first team staff," said Nor'easters sporting director Tim Oswald. "The Nor'easters will benefit greatly as he serves in this dual capacity role. Alan will give our players and organization a first class experience this summer with best practices infused on a number of levels from his daily development within the USL Championship platform. Ocean City's relationships with professional clubs are critical to the advancement of our players and this one was a perfect fit for us. It's a win-win situation for everyone."
