Nor'easters break club record with 1-0 win at rival Reading United

The Ocean City Nor'easters made history and beat their biggest rival along the way. On Friday night, the Nor'easters blanked Reading United AC 1-0 to extend their road unbeaten streak to 11 games. That total sets a new club record, breaking the previous mark set in 2005.

Daniel Diaz-Bonilla scored the lone goal, his second of the season, assisted by Nicolas Cam Orellana in the 8th minute. Felix Schafer made five saves to earn his second clean sheet of the campaign.

With the win, the Nor'easters hit the halfway mark of the season undefeated (6-0-1) for the second straight season. They remain in first place with a three point lead over West Chester United, who has played one more game.

“It has been a tough run of games and it’s started to catch up with us," said Nor'easters head coach Kevin Nuss, whose personal coaching unbeaten streak was extended to 14. "Legs are heavy and minds are slowing but we showed again that we have the heart to grind out results.”

In addition to the new road unbeaten streak, this win also extends Ocean City's unbeaten streak against Reading to five games, the longest such streak against their rivals since 2007. It is also the third straight road win against United, something Ocean City hasn't done since 1999.

This was the 54th meeting between the two clubs, the oldest active rivalry in the entire United Soccer Leagues. However, this marks the first time that the Nor'easters have earned back-to-back shutout wins against Reading. This competitive rivalry that dates back to 1997 has only seen back-to-back shutout wins for either team once, and that was when Reading beat the Storm twice in a row (both at Reading) during the 2017 season.

Not much rest for the Nor'easters as they will return home for a Sunday night game against Real Central New Jersey at the Beach House on June 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online at OceanCityFC.com.
