Sam Archer emerged from a group of more than 150 players during last month’s two-day tryout to garner an invitation to the first phase of pre-season training camp in Ave Maria, Fla. beginning Sunday, Jan. 20.

“From the day I started walking, soccer just took over my life,” Archer told Chicago-Fire.com. “I just loved it from the first day I started playing and playing professionally is my ultimate goal and dream.”

Apart from his time with the Nor’easters Archer spent time with the Colorado Rapids. Though the trial with the Rapids didn’t pan out, Archer will be able to call on that experience when he joins the Men in Red in
Florida.

“It definitely helps that I’ve experienced a professional environment before,” he explained. “Of course I’m going to be nervous on the first day with the guys but I know what to expect.”

Sam’s good friend and training partner Nate Bourdeau signed with the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) franchise Syracuse Silver Knights where he has played 12 games so far in this 2012/2013 season. Impressive defender Bourdeau has been impressive with 3 goals and 2 assists as he hopes to pull Syracuse up the table during the second half of the season.

Long time Ocean City Nor’easter Kevin Curran will be attending the United Soccer League (USL) combine with the hope of proving himself to the USL Pro clubs who are looking for the next crop of top American players coming up. "It will be a tough but exciting time at the combine" Kevin told us "but I will work hard and hope I do enough to impress the coaches who are there". Curran has played 48 games and 3839 minutes for the Nor’easters over 4 years winning Defensive MVP in 2010 as well has helping his college Loyola, Md to win the MAAC Championship.

Many websites and soccer commentators are expecting great things from the Nor’easters defensive pairing of Tapiwa Machingauta and Nicholas Bibbs. It is believed in soccer circles that they will both be picked in the MLS Supplemental Draft. Bibbs was also invited to the NASL Combine on Feb 1 – 3. Machingauta, of Bradley University, played 13 games for the Nor’easters scoring once and being a rock alongside Nick Bibbs, Syracuse, who played 15 games and leading the team to the Mid-Atlantic Championship.
