Preview: Nor'easters take undefeated record on the road for first time tonight

The Ocean City Nor’easters will play the club's first road game of the 2017 Premier Development League season tonight when they head to New York City to take on FA Euro. Ocean City enters the game tied for first place in the Mid-Atlantic Division with a 2-0-0 record and this will be the first of four straight road games for the club.

The Nor’easters will look to continue the momentum from this past weekend when they opened the season with back-to-back wins over Evergreen FC. On Friday, they cruised to a 4-1 win with Ignacio Tellechea (Madrid, Spain / West Virginia Tech) scoring a pair of goals to lead the way. Sunday's game was considerably more dramatic as the Nor'easters found themselves trailing 2-0 entering the 85th minute. Ocean City then scored three unanswered goals to earn a historic comeback victory. It was the first time in club history that the Nor'easters have rallied from a two-goal deficit to win a game.

Tellechea's two goals and his performance on Sunday earned him a spot on the PDL Team of the Week.

For first-year head coach John Thompson, the past weekend’s wins hopefully lead to bigger things against FA Euro.

“We’re hoping we can go up and win that game,” said Thompson, who became just the second coach in club history to win his first two regular season games. “Nine points for the start of the season let's everybody know we're a team to fear. We’ll be prepared, look at some film, and prepare for this one game.”

In addition to Tellechea's Friday brace, Daniel Kozma (Budapest, Hungary / Grand View) also has a pair of goals in the first two games. Fredlin Mompremier (Limbe, Haiti / Farleigh Dickinson), Akeil Barrett (Kingston, Jamaica / Tulsa), and Fraser Colmer (Southampton, England / Radford) scored once.

The Nor’easters will play FA Euro New York, the team that finished in 8th place in the PDL Northeast Division last year with a 2-8-4 record. Currently their record is 1-1-0 this season in the Mid-Atlantic Division. They started the season with a 2-0 road win over Evergreen FC before falling by the same score to Jersey Express last Saturday. Jason Lampkin and Johan Mauritzon are the team’s leading goal scorers with a goal each. Brian McPartland is the team’s starting keeper who has made 10 saves and holds a 1.00 goals against average.

This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the Nor'easters and FA Euro with Ocean City winning the previous four games by a combined score of 13-4.

Coach Thompson stressed chemistry was needed for the team and says these upcoming away games will help build that for the team.

“We have four road trips coming up. Siting on the bus together, staying in hotels together. We can get more chemistry built,” said Thompson. “It normally takes four to five games into the season to really start clicking in the PDL. The wins last week are going to elevate us, give us a lift for the whole season.”

The game is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Follow the Ocean City Nor'easters Twitter account for live updates during the game.
