It was the third win over the Rangers in their inaugural season in the PDL. The Barons finish the season in 4th place in the Northeast Division, seven points short of the wild card spot.

In addition to the team picking up a win in their season finale at Carey Stadium, fans were treated to a milestone. Byron Carmichael assisted on Ocean City’s second goal, giving him 100 points for his Barons career as he completed his fifth season for the Men In Red.

Both teams played a conservative opening 20 minutes, not wanting to make a mistake. The first breakthrough came in the 21st minute when Adam Williamson passed the ball across midfield to Ryan Finley down the left wing. The former U.S. Under-17 international made a run from 40 yards out, reached the penalty area, cut back, and bent a shot around the goalkeeper and just inside the far post for his second goal of the season.

Back on May 14, Finley became the youngest player to ever score a goal for the club -- 17 years, 47 days -- when he found the back of the net in an 8-1 road win against the same Rangers team. It was Williamson’s fourth assist of the season, which is tied for the team lead.

New Jersey rarely threatened the Ocean City Barons net, with former Ocean City High School player John Fogarty only needing to make one save in his Barons debut. Fogarty, who will be a freshman at Villanova this Fall, was the fifth different goalkeeper used by Ocean City in 2008. He was a two-time All-State selection at OCHS, helping the Red Raiders win two South Jersey titles and one state championship.

The Barons didn’t put the game away until the 81st minute when a ball was played over the top, and down the left wing for Carmichael who played it across to Lee Squires who scored his fourth goal of the campaign. With that assist, Carmichael tied Williamson for the team lead with four, and gives him 18 for his Ocean City career, one shy of the club record held by Ruben Mingo.

The Barons finish the season with a 6-5-5 record, marking the sixth consecutive year that the team has earned at least six victories. Carmichael edged out fellow forward Steve Miller for the team scoring lead with six goals, four assists for 16 points.
