Offensively-speaking, the weekend was a success. The Ocean City Barons scored six goals in two games, but the main story was that they only earned three out of a possible six points in their final two road games of the season. They defeated the Vermont Voltage 4-1 on Saturday, only see their seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end against Cape Cod 3-2 thanks to a stoppage time goal by Crusader midfielder Ryan Pierce. The Barons began the road trip on Saturday by defeating the Vermont Voltage 4-1. They nearly went into the halftime break trailing 1-0 until Jeremy Ortiz scored on an assist from Byron Carmichael just before the whistle. The game changed in the 58th minute when Vermont owner/player Bo Vuckovic was sent off for receiving his second yellow card. With a man advantage, the visitors scored two goals in four minutes, the first by defender Joe Banks, followed by Carmichael's third goal of the year. In the 83rd minute, the scoring was capped off by the second goal of the year by Banks to extend the Ocean City unbeaten streak to seven games.

On Sunday, the Crusaders led led 2-0 when Ortiz cut the lead in half with his fifth goal of the year in the 65th minute. In the 90th minute, Ocean City thought they had stole a point when Cape Cod handled the ball in the penalty area, and Ortiz stepped to the spot and added his team-leading sixth. However, the Crusaders would have the last laugh when Ryan Pierce scored the game-winner in stoppage time for the Crusaders.

After the weekend, the Barons are 4-2-5 with 17 points which is good for a tie for second place in the Northeast division with the Reading Rage. They trail the first place Westchester Flames by eight points, but the good news is that they have played one less game than Reading and Westchester.

The Barons are counting on home field advantage to carry them into the playoffs with five straight home games to close out the regular season. They currently hold a 26-game home unbeaten streak, dating back to the 2003 season.

The first of five home games will be on Sunday, July 9 when they take on the Brooklyn Knights at 7:30 p.m. at Carey Stadium.
